Examples
今、草を刈っています。

田中さんは東京に住んでいます。

Tanaka lives in Tokyo.
Some verbs use 〜ている for a continuing state, not an action happening this second.
Meaning
〜ている describes an action in progress or a continuing state. In polite speech, it becomes 〜ています.
Usage
Make the verb て form, then add いる or polite います.

Notes
For action verbs, 〜ている often means "is doing now." For some verbs, such as 住む, 知る, and 結婚する, it often describes a continuing state.
